Captain Niklas Peterstam – Managing Director
Niklas Peterstam is the managing director of Salén Ship Management (SSM) as well as Captain of the M/S Island Sky, which is under SSM:s management. Niklas began his nautical career in 1979 and for the next eleven years he worked on different kinds of cargo ships in various positions. In 1991, he switched to passenger ships when he started working on board the expedition cruise ship Caledonian Star operated by Salén Lindblad Cruising, an expedition cruise company based in the US. In 1996, Niklas started to work for Star Cruises based in Malaysia, working on board several vessels and on shore. He was then assigned new duties at Meyer Ship Yard in Germany, and was involved in the delivery of three mega cruise ships from 1998-2001. The Norwegian Star, the third of these ships, was delivered to Miami with Niklas at the helm. Captain Dan Wikingson – EVP Fleet Operations
Dan Wikingson is the executive vice president of Salén Ship Management (SSM). He is in charge of the company’s fleet operations as well as captain and technical superintendent of the M/S Island Sky. Dan began his nautical career in 1974 and has worked on a vast range of cargo ships, ferries, charter vessels and cruise ships. In 1997 Dan was employed by Star Cruises and was quickly introduced to their new-building program. Over the next few years Dan would oversee the start-up of three of the world’s largest cruise ships at the time - Superstar Leo, Superstar Virgo and Superstar Libra. Dan moved on to Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL) as staff captain and captain of several mega cruise ships. Before joining Salén Ship Management in 2009, Dan was Team Leader Hull in the NCL new-building team based in St Nazaire, France for the construction/building of two post-PanMax cruise vessels (153 000GRT/4 700 pax).

Johan Jarvoll – Operations Manager
Johan Jarvoll is operations manager at Salén Ship Management and is based at the head office in Gothenburg, Sweden. Johan is a qualified sea captain who has sailed on cargo ships. For the past few years, Johan has worked on-shore as vessel operator and bunker purchaser at Broström Tankers AB. In addition to being in charge of bunker purchasing and vessel operations at Salén Ship Management, Johan is the company’s designated person and company security officer.

Mats Andersson – Group Financial Controller
Mats Andersson is group financial controller at Salén Ship Management and is working in the head office in Gothenburg, Sweden. Mats holds a master of science in accounting and finance and has prior to his latest position as group financial controller and reporting manager with Broström AB, also worked as business controller in a technology company offering engineering services and as group accountant in an industrial group.

Thomas Wigforss – Director and Senior Technical Advisor
Thomas Wigforss is a naval architect (MSc) who has worked over 40 years in the marine industry. Starting as project manager at Rederi AB Svenska Lloyd he then moved on to Tor Line AB as project manager for the building of two fast and large passenger/car/trailer ferries and traffic manager responsible for the operation of 12 ro/ro vessels. After a few years in the Far East as managing director of Orient Offshore Pte Ltd in Singapore, Thomas based himself in the UK working as technical director and advisor for several shipping companies over there. In 2000 Thomas was appointed by Viking River Cruises (VRC) as technical director to head up the 2000-01 new-building programme at the Merwede Shipyard, NL of four river cruise vessels and then continued consultancy work for VRC on further two new-buildings. Per-Magnus Sander - Director
Per-Magnus Sander has extensive experience from small ship cruising, having worked as expedition leader and guide on board a number of expedition cruise ships in the Arctic, Antarctic and the Indian Ocean since 1992. Per-Magnus is a maritime lawyer and in 1999 he concluded his studies at the Nordic Institution of Maritime Law in Oslo. After graduating from law school he started working in the legal department of the Swedish shipping company Broströms and then ventured on to set up the adventure travel company PolarQuest, specialising on expedition cruising in the Arctic and Antarctic. Katarina Salén - Director
Katarina Salén has spent more than twenty years in the expedition cruising industry on ships and on shore. After joining her first ship Caledonian Star in 1990, she has worked on board a vast number of ships on the world’s seven continents. Many years were spent as guide and hotel manager on icebreakers and ice-strengthened ships in the Arctic and Antarctica. In 1999 she was part of setting up the adventure travel company PolarQuest.
